This science needs lots of technical and instrumental needs and its uses to confirm the generic nature, phenomena’s etc to distinguish and confirm the authenticity of the Gem Stone. Today, its main focus is related primarily with jeweler and art effects; secondarily with holdings of personal repute and values etc. Gemmology study is not related with astrology or other pseudo science. Therefore, gemmologists are not needed to be an astrologer or fortune teller as well.

This requires lot of technical knowledge on Crystals / Gems and the use of technical instruments to identify Gem variety, classification, origin, grade etc. They also distinguish real/natural gem from a simulant or simply a look alike.
